Kovu Healing is a premier therapy and consulting service in the Washington DC metro area. We provide services geared toward healing emotional scars. We offer a safe space for clients to explore life challenges without judgment. Kovu Healing aspires to de-stigmatize psychotherapy while providing education on mental health and wellness. We have three core beliefs: 1) Connection is vital to the human existence and survival, 2) anything scarred or broken can be healed, and 3) healing begins from within.
Our Expertise
April Preston, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Washington DC area who earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary's University in Minneapolis, MN. I specialize in systems and family dynamics and have a strong love for community and cultural matters. My belief is that people are experts in their own lives. My goals are to assist people in Reflecting upon life choices and experiences that have caused emotional wounds, supporting people in Releasing pain associated with emotional scars, and providing a safe space for Restoration. Therefore, I founded Kovu (i.e., pronounced ko-voo and means 'scar' in Swahili) Healing as a place for scars to heal.

Consulting Services
We provide consultation that addresses mental health issues through a cultural and trauma-informed lens. Engrained in this service is the distribution of resources and education to increase awareness and recognition of mental health and trauma symptoms.
Training
Kovu Healing provides mental health-related workshops and training opportunities to professional and community organizations including churches and private groups.
